When performing transmission refurbishment or installing new wiring at height, ensuring safe and easy access to the work area is essential. This includes access to sag fittings, insulators, and conductor gun ends.

One of the most effective ways to achieve this is by installing a secure working platform, allowing multiple linesmen to work safely at height in a controlled environment.

To ensure safety, we implement safety-critical procedures to both protect the workers and maintain a secure working environment. The platform must be properly anchored to the tower in a way that prevents overloading the tower crossarm, while also ensuring safe access to the platform.

A typical platform crew consists of six linesmen, each with varying levels of skills, knowledge, and experience. A supervisor, known as the chargehand, coordinates the work and ensures that safety standards are met.

The title “Le” stands for Linesman Erector, with the number prefix (Le1, Le2, Le3) indicating their level of experience. Additionally, a trainee linesman is included in the team to gain exposure to the work environment.

Trainee linesmen are introduced to the risks of working in a platform gang in a controlled, safe environment, with the goal of preparing them to eventually become the next generation of chargehands.
